FC Bayern head to the USA tomorrow to compete in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. fcbayern.com is counting down to departure and getting you in the mood for the big football event of the summer. Today the focus is on the one goal that the team has at the tournament.
When Bayern set off for the Club World Cup on Tuesday, they don’t just have the chance to crown their Bundesliga-winning season with another title. It’s also an unprecedented opportunity to make history in a new-style competition. The team are heading across the Atlantic with one goal on their minds.

“Every tournament we enter means we want to win. I think that desire will be very big,” said Joshua Kimmich of the team’s approach. Harry Kane also underlined the squad’s ambitions Stateside, telling fifa.com, “We’re undoubtedly one of the best teams in the world, so our aspiration for every tournament we compete in is to win it. We’ll give our all to be the first team to win this tournament.”
32 teams, 32 sets of fans – one big football festival
It’s the size of the new-format Club World Cup that makes it so special. It’s the first time that larger confederations have been able to enter multiple clubs, meaning it really will be some of the best teams in the world competing for the title of world champions. A total of 32 teams also means 32 sets of fans who will do their bit to create a footballing festival. Thomas Müller is hoping that “the many different club teams and also the cultures create a diverse mix”. Even as a vastly experienced player who’s competed at many international tournaments, he’s still looking forward to the moment where “we get to sample the atmosphere there for the first time. There’ll be something about that”.
From a Munich perspective, it’s Bayern supporters who should help create the atmosphere. Germany’s biggest club has around 100 official fan clubs in the USA alone, but they won’t be the only ones backing Bayern Stateside. “I know we’ve got a global fan community. I wouldn’t be surprised if fans from Munich and Germany travelled to join our other fans from around the world,” explained Vincent Kompany.
Excitement for a new event
“The closer the tournament comes, the greater the excitement,” the coach added. The new-format competition has a special allure about it, both in a sporting and emotional sense. “This will be a special experience. We’ll play against teams from other continents who have a big fan base. It’ll definitely be a unique tournament like we’ve never seen before,” the Belgian stated further. It’s reason enough for a few days less holiday this summer for the players and staff.

“It’ll be an exciting experience with the matches in America. It isn’t every day we get to spend several weeks over there and play for something important,” said Josip Stanišić. “Even though some guys have played 50 or more games, the whole team’s excited about the chance to win a title. We’ll give our all.” Kompany backed that up when he stated: “We belong to a club for which every title counts. That’ll be the same in the USA.” It isn’t long now until Bayern start chasing that one dream as one team.
