Bayern won the first title of the new season by beating VfB Stuttgart 2-1 in the 2025 Franz Beckenbauer Supercup. “I’m very proud. Today it was about a title but also showing that we’re here. We did that well,” said Joshua Kimmich afterwards. “We had the chance to start out with a title. That was our goal and we’ve achieved it. Today was a good first step,” added head coach Vincent Kompany. fcbayern.com rounds up the reaction to Saturday’s game.
Reaction to the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup against VfB Stuttgart

Vincent Kompany: “The title is extra important because it’s the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup – that’ll always be special for Bayern. It’s never easy in Stuttgart, but we came here and delivered. Obviously we would’ve liked a longer pre-season, but moaning doesn’t help. We’ve spoken about that. We had the chance to start out with a title. That was our goal and we’ve achieved it. Today was a good first step.”

Manuel Neuer: “It’s a title! That’s obviously very important for us. You didn’t sense any tiredness with us. We could’ve been cleverer at the end, but we’re happy. I want to help the team and enjoy success. We did that today. Stuttgart are a tough team to play against. They did well, but we deserved to win. We were always the better team in our pre-season games. We want to take that into the league.”

Joshua Kimmich: “I’m very proud. Today it was about a title but also showing that we’re here. We did that well. We needed to take our chances better in the first half. We also had a few opportunities on the break in the second half. We were a bit lucky halfway through the first half as well. Stuttgart also had some good chances. At the end of the day, it’s very much a deserved win. There’s no sense yet talking about other titles. We’ll now focus on Friday. We want to win another match there.”

Harry Kane: “That’s how we wanted to start the season, with a good feeling and a title. It was a short summer break but we’ve worked hard. But the way we played today was good. It would’ve been nice if we’d scored one or two more goals, but we moved the ball around well and worked back well as a team.”

Leon Goretzka: “There are definitely lots of things we can do better. The style of pressing we want to play is right for Bayern and us as a team. We’re 100 percent behind that. We made some needless mistakes with the ball today. As Bayern, you go into the season with maximum ambitions and goals. Given the short pre-season, we know we’ll have to suffer a bit here and there to get to the right fitness level over the course of a few games. But when we do the basics, we’re tough to beat.”

Jonathan Tah: “It feels very good. I’m really proud to have my first title here. I’m pleased we’ve started the season like this. Hopefully it continues.”
Reaction from the Stuttgart camp
Sebastian Hoeneß (head coach): “It’s a needless defeat from my point of view. When I see the chances, I might say it’s maybe fair, but on the whole it’s very annoying and needless. We need to be more mature. Still, it was a game where Bayern had to go to their limit, even though it counted for nothing in the end.”
Angelo Stiller (midfielder): “Congratulations to Bayern on their win, but I think we played well over the 90 minutes. Bayern are a top team and we knew we’d have to come through some phases of the game, but we had some very good chances that we’d maybe score on another day. We can be proud of ourselves and can definitely feel encouraged for the season.”
Deniz Undav (forward): “It doesn’t feel good. It was a tight game and we had chances to do more. We had some issues in the first 20-25 minutes. Then we got into the game more and created chances. Unfortunately, we didn’t take them. Bayern were a touch better today and so deserved to win.”
