Reaction to friendly at Red Bull Salzburg - Jonas Urbig :'That's how to start the new year!'

FC Bayern enjoyed a comfortable 5-0 win in their friendly at FC Red Bull Salzburg ahead of the second half of the season. Five days before returning to Bundesliga action against VfL Wolfsburg, the Munich men showed the same flair and desire for goals as before the Christmas break. “We kept a clean sheet, scored a lot of goals and stood firm, which is important for both the attack and the defence – that’s how to start the new year!” summarised Jonas Urbig. “The break did us good. You’ll see on Sunday that everyone’s firing again and can’t wait,” said Josip Stanišić. fcbayern.com has compiled the rest of the reaction for you.

Reaction to the friendly at Salzburg

Max Eberl, board member for sport: “We’ve established an excellent position in all three competitions. If we keep wanting to actively score goals and actively defend as a team in the coming months – like we did in the first half of the season – then a lot is possible this season. We want to gradually work our way up to that level. Our aim is to keep hitting form and being there at the crucial moment. Our team have good quality, they’re hungry and fit.”

Vincent Kompany: “The players are always given an individual programme for the break. You’ve seen straight away that the guys followed it perfectly. After the first training sessions, I already feel like the team are really fired up again. We are very motivated for what we want to achieve in 2026. It's not just the midweek fixtures, but also three games in six days. That's pretty full on, especially when you're coming back from holiday. But the holiday wasn't that long, the programme was good and the lads are fit. If the squad gets through this phase, we'll be in a very strong position going into the part of the season where everything is decided."

Josip Stanišić: “We started well in the first half, then lost our way a bit midway through. Despite that, we won the first half 1-0. In the second half, we played brilliantly and took our chances. All in all it was a successful start. We were able to recover well – it was also important mentally to switch off. You’ll see on Sunday that everyone’s firing again and can’t wait. The break did us good.”

Jonas Urbig: “We kept a clean sheet, scored a lot of goals and stood firm, which is important for both the attack and the defence – that’s how to start the new year! We’re training and recovering diligently. It’s important that we build up the momentum again in training to get to the level we were at before the winter break, but I’m very optimistic about that.”
