France coach Didier Deschamps made no less than 11 changes to the starting XI in the clash between the two World Cup participants compared to the friendly win against Brazil - but the new-look side also impressed in every respect. After a strong start by the Colombians, who had a good chance to take the lead through Lucho Díaz (5th minute), the French struck back with great efficiency. Désiré Doué (29') and Marcus Thuram (41') gave Les Bleus a 2-0 half-time lead. Los Cafeteros dictated the play again after the break, but it was the Europeans who continued to score: Doué increased the lead to 3-0 (56') after an assist from former Bundesliga player Thuram. Jaminton Campaz came off the bench to get a consolation goal for Colombia (77') in the French side's 3-1 win.
Next up for France, finalists at the last two World Cup tournaments, will be Côte d'Ivoire, one of Germany's opponents in the World Cup group stage, on 4 June. This was Colombia's second defeat of this international break after a 2-1 loss to Croatia. Díaz & Co. are scheduled to play a friendly against Costa Rica on 29 May.
