Harry Kane has scored by far the most goals for FC Bayern this season – including the first two in the 4-1 win in the second leg of the Champions League last 16. While the opener was a penalty, the second was one that took everyone’s breath away. With 54 minutes on the clock at the Allianz Arena, the Englishman skipped away from two Atalanta defenders before hammering the ball into the corner of the net.
Praise from head coach
“What Harry did for the goal is just extraordinary,” commented FCB head coach Vincent Kompany afterwards. “Obviously I’m also happy when he scores the simple goals because they’re important for the consistency. But actions like that are special.”
You too have chosen this wonderful strike as your Goal of the Month for March – by some margin. Kane received 64.6 percent of the votes, followed by Michael Olise in second place with his curler to make it 5-0 in the first leg at Atalanta (16.1%). Below that were Luis Díaz’s opener at Borussia Mönchengladbach (13.7%), Momoko Tanikawa’s winning goal in the Women’s Champions League quarter-final first leg at Manchester United, as well as Anton Heinz‘s goal for the reserves in the regional league at Spielvereinigung Bayreuth.

The March Goal of the Month was just one example of Kane’s exceptional ability as a striker, as the statistics also show. The goal was already his tenth in the Champions League this season and, at the same time, the Englishman’s 50th overall in the competition. It was Kane’s 29th goal in 34 appearances in Europe’s premier club competition for Bayern, and his 47th in his 39th competitive match of the campaign.
Atalanta added to list
In addition, Atalanta became the fourth Italian team against whom Kane has found the net in the Champions League – following Lazio, Inter Milan and Juventus. The English centre-forward has not scored against more teams from any other country in the competition. The Bayern frontman also equalled a personal record in this game, as the 32-year-old had never before hit 46 goals in all competitions in one season.
"Harry’s second goal was just awesome,” praised teammate Tom Bischof at the final whistle. “I think I was one of the first to go over to him and I said: ‘Go to the fans, celebrate that!’ At first I thought he was going to lay the ball off, but then he does the turn – and he can just shoot. He’s proven that again.”
