Bayern take good record into next Norwegian clash away at Viking
This season is the first in 27 years to feature two Norwegian teams in the Champions League. And by chance, Bayern get to face both of them – back-to-back. After opening the league phase with a 5-0 win at home to Bodø/Glimt, the Bavarians now head to Scandinavia for their first European away adventure of 2026/27 to take on domestic champions Viking.

Good record against Norwegians
Good record against Norwegians

This is the first time Bayern will face the club from Stavanger in a competitive fixture and the 10th encounter with Norwegian opposition. The Reds are unbeaten in such meetings, with nine wins and two draws and a total of 30 goals scored (3.3 per game).
There have been a total of 13 games between German and Norwegian clubs in the European Cup/Champions League. The only Scandinavian success was a 3-0 victory for Rosenborg over Borussia Dortmund in October 1999 (plus eight German wins and four draws).
Neuer set to make more history

The game against Bodø/Glimt was the 53rd different opponent Manuel Neuer has faced in the Champions League, equalling Iker Casillas’ competition record. Viking would now see the Bayern captain set a new best mark outright with 54 and also go level with Thomas Müller’s German record of 163 Champions League appearances.
More facts on Champions League fixture
Eight in a row – Harry Kane struck against Bodø/Glimt to make it eight Champions League games in a row with a goal. He’s only the fourth player to manage that feat after Robert Lewandowski, Cristiano Ronaldo and Ruud van Nistelrooy. Ronaldo holds the record for the longest run of scoring at 11 appearances.
22-game scoring run – Bayern have scored in each of their last 22 Champions League fixtures, netting 62 goals in total. The last time they drew a blank in Europe was the 3-0 loss at Feyenoord in January 2025. The only two teams since the start of last season to restrict Bayern to fewer than two goals in a Champions League game are 2025/26 finalists Arsenal (3-1 loss) and Paris Saint-Germain (1-1 draw).
11 losses in 13 – Viking have lost 11 of their 13 matches in the European Cup/Champions League (W1, D1). Of all teams with at least 10 games in Europe’s top club competition, only Valletta (90%) have a higher rate of defeat than the Norwegians (85%).
Involved in 14 attempts – Michael Olise scored two goals and provided an assist against Bodø/Glimt. In total he either took (seven) or set up (seven) 14 Bayern shots that night.
Winless in seven – Viking have failed to win any of their last seven fixtures with German opposition (D2, L5), including a 3-1 defeat at VfB Stuttgart on Matchday 1.
Two wins – However, the reigning champions of Norway have a positive record at home to Germans with two wins, two draws and one defeat. Their last victory came 44 years ago with a 1-0 win over Lok Leipzig in the 1982/83 UEFA Cup.
