After 2-2 draw

Reaction to Bundesliga game at Augsburg - Vincent Kompany: ‘An emotional rollercoaster’

Bayern had to settle for a 2-2 draw away at Augsburg in the Bundesliga on Saturday. Despite more possession and chances, including four goals ruled out for offside, Vincent Kompany’s men were unable to claim more than a point. “It was an emotional rollercoaster. We had the ball in the net six times, but four didn’t count. We’re not happy, because we didn’t win. But it isn’t an easy away fixture. Lots of teams will drop points here,” said the head coach afterwards. “We were behind twice, hit the bar and post, had an incredible amount of chances. But we need to be pleased with a point in the end,” added Harry Kane. fcbayern.com rounds up the reaction from the Matchday 5 encounter.

Reaction to Bundesliga game away at Augsburg

Max Eberl (board member for sport): “Augsburg played a very good game, but to be honest the goals for 1-0 and 2-1 were self-inflicted. You saw we started playing more cleanly and had more chances, but then we conceded again because we didn’t defend well. In the end, we made it 2-2 – fully deserved – but we had enough chances to win the game.”

Vincent Kompany: “We’re not happy, because we didn’t win. But it isn’t an easy away fixture. Lots of teams will drop points here. When you have so many chances, you’ve done a lot right. But when you make mistakes like we did that lead to two goals, then it’s deserved that we didn’t win. It was an emotional rollercoaster. We had the ball in the net six times, but four didn’t count. We had chances. I didn’t think we’d create so many – 29 shots, four goals ruled out for offside. Obviously we made mistakes with the two goals we conceded, which is why it finished with this result. That’s how it is in football. They’re normal people who don’t always do everything right. It hurts at the moment, but we move on. Thankfully we’ve got lots of games, so we need to move on.”

Harry Kane: “On another day, we’d win this game. We gifted them two simple chances and they punished us. We were behind twice, hit the bar and post, had an incredible amount of chances. But we need to be pleased with a point in the end.”

Joshua Kimmich: “Things obviously got off to a bad start with conceding that really early goal. We were then too untidy in the first half, didn’t have the number of chances. In the second half, we applied much more pressure. The final 20-30 minutes in particular were a big powerplay. I don’t know yet how tight the offsides were. I’d call it an unlucky draw.”

Manuel Neuer: “Not many of us have had a game like today. It was strange that we scored so many goals that were then ruled out. The first goal we conceded was a silly mistake by me. But I still had hope, because it was the first minute. The chance we could still turn the game around is big. I think we had the chances but just didn’t take them. There was a bit of bad luck with the tight offsides.”

Reaction from Augsburg

Manuel Baum (head coach): “You can’t highlight one person today. We were strong as a collective. I was particularly impressed how we didn’t fall apart after the first equaliser but hit back. I’m proud of the guys and the whole stadium.”

Robin Fellhauer (midfielder): “We can definitely be pleased with a point against Bayern. We would’ve liked more. When you look at the way the game went, maybe it’s also a bit fortunate. The team left everything out on the pitch, so we deserved the point.”

Finn Dahmen (goalkeeper): “We would’ve taken a point before the game. We gave our all, but you also need luck. In the end, we’re happy with the point.”
