After 3-3 draw

Viking post-match reaction - Harry Kane: 'There are no excuses for it'

FC Bayern overturned a two-goal deficit at Viking FK in the Champions League but had to settle for a 3-3 draw with 10 men in the end. “We just made too many simple errors away against a good team. When you make such big mistakes, you’ll be punished. That’s exactly what happened today,” summarised two-goal Harry Kane. Head coach Vincent Kompany took a similar view: “It’s our own fault today. We were very dominant, like we were at the weekend. We’re just making lapses in concentration and aren’t smart enough in these moments.” fcbayern.com has compiled the post-match reaction for you:

Reaction to match at Viking

Max Eberl (board member for sport): “We’re just making too many mistakes at the moment. That’s not our standard. I’m not saying that we’re not investing enough or not having enough chances, but two goals conceded against Augsburg and three here say it all. We’re creating chances, scoring goals but making too many mistakes. We’ll try to improve that and look forward.”

Vincent Kompany: “It’s our own fault today. We were very dominant, like we were at the weekend. There are certainly things where you can say the substance of our performance isn’t that bad, but we’re just making lapses in concentration and aren’t smart enough in these moments. Against Augsburg we conceded after eight seconds, today after one and a half minutes. In that situation, we maybe didn’t need to play it out from the corner, but could’ve looked for the longer option. We knew that too. There was a bit of overconfidence there. At the moment, it feels like every chance for the opponents leads to a goal. That’s no excuse, though, because we’re causing these situations ourselves. The sending-off was obviously stupid, and we’ve spoken about it quite clearly. However, it’s important to me that I don’t see a lack of energy in the team. The players are working hard, mentally they’re always at it too. Nevertheless, things like this shouldn’t happen. It makes it difficult to win matches, even when you’re clearly superior and don’t play that badly over the whole game. But because of these isolated situations, which we’re bringing about ourselves, it obviously turns out differently.”

Joshua Kimmich: “We’re making too many mistakes. Our play isn’t bad. We have to acknowledge that something is amiss at the moment, but that’s down to the fact we’re making too many individual errors. It’s not down to effort. We’re lagging a bit behind now because of the points we’ve dropped, which we need to make up, but it’s still too early to say much about it. Nevertheless, we have to admit that we’re a bit away from where we want to be.”

Harry Kane: “The first half was poor from us. We did much better in the second half: we were the better side, created chances and turned the game around to 3-2. Then the red card obviously changes everything, especially the final 15 to 20 minutes. We just made too many simple errors away against a good team. When you make such big mistakes, you’ll be punished. That’s exactly what happened today. We made a mistake in the very first minute, giving away a set piece and the goal. We had a lot of chances after that and could’ve certainly equalised. Instead we were hit on the counter. Viking defended well and waited for their opportunities. There are no excuses for it. The atmosphere was good but I think we showed what we’re about as a team in the second half. We should’ve won the match with that performance. In the end, we’ll take the point and move forward.”

Konrad Laimer: “I think the start was the problem again. We’ve conceded a goal in the first minute in each of the last two matches. That’s just stupid – it cannot and should not happen. The way we conceded the second goal is unforgiveable too, being beaten by one pass over 60 metres. Ultimately we reacted well, played a good second half and had the game under control. Then we let ourselves be provoked in that incident and get a second yellow, which obviously didn’t help us in the situation. However, I also think we could’ve done better with 10 men. In the end it’s 3-3. I don’t think it’s down to effort. We showed that we run and fight, but everyone just needs to be a bit cleverer in one or two situations. Then we certainly would’ve got three points here.”

Jonas Urbig: “We showed a good reaction in the second half, but unfortunately threw the game away after the sending-off. It obviously became harder to defend after that. It was positive that we came back again, but we’ll analyse the game and don’t have much time to think about it. It’s only a few days until the next match. We obviously would’ve liked to come away with more.”

Reaction from the Viking camp

Bjarte Lunde Aarsheim (coach): “The first half was basically perfect. We implemented the plans very well. The three quick goals in the second half were obviously tough. We have to look at how we switch and defend more effectively. What impressed me was the mentality and hunger of our players. We were also driven forward by the fans. We didn’t want to lose and were determined to get the point.”
