Latest news from Bayern

The 1-0 win at Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday ensured that Bayern will be top of the table at the halfway point of the Bundesliga season, regardless of midweek results. “It’s about carrying on with the same hunger, it's a question of mentality,” said head coach Vincent Kompany in Tuesday’s press conference. “We showed it against Gladbach and against Salzburg.”

The Munich men will therefore be looking to further cement their position at the top of the league with three more points in their final game of the first half of the season against Hoffenheim. “We have another opportunity to show that we’re hungry,” added Kompany, who is taking a positive view of the intensive programme over the next few weeks with six fixtures in 18 days. “We don't intend to take our foot off one bit. This is what we want: lots of matches and lots of chances to achieve something. If the squad's fit, we're happy to be able to play the matches."

All the key quotes from the press conference with Vincent Kompany and Christoph Freund are here for you to read:

Opponents: Hoffenheim

It’s been a lacklustre campaign for Hoffenheim so far. The Europa League participants have taken 14 points from 16 league matches, 10 fewer than at the same stage last season. After the 1-0 defeat at home to Wolfsburg in their opening match of the year last Saturday, TSG are just one point above the relegation play-off place of 16th. “When you’re in the bottom third, part of the job is handling this pressure situation and staying unified as a team,” said coach Christian Ilzer. “We need to find ways and possibilities to get good results, in order to free ourselves from this situation step by step.”

Despite the position in the table, Bayern should be warned about their upcoming opponents as TSG beat RB Leipzig (4-3) in November as well as picking up a point at Borussia Dortmund (1-1), proving they can be a match for the top teams of the league. "Hoffenheim have always been interesting in their squad planning, with young players who are also capable of making their mark in Europe,” analysed FCB boss Kompany. “They have a new coach who's been very successful and broke Salzburg's dominance with Sturm Graz in Austria. They have a good mix.”

The facts on the clash with Hoffenheim:

Team news

Kompany was unable to confirm whether Jamal Musiala will be available again after his illness. Dayot Upamecano will definitely be back in the squad, though, after serving a one-match suspension. Daniel Peretz (kidney), João Palhinha (muscular), Hiroki Ito (metatarsal) Sacha Boey (ankle) and Josip Stanišić (knee) remain sidelined for FCB's first home fixture of 2025.

The visitors are without Ozan Kabak, Grischa Prömel (both cruciate ligament), Umut Tohumcu (ankle) Marius Bülter (thigh) and Ihlas Bebou (knee).

FCB vs. TSG - a fixture that promises goals:

What the coaches say

We're playing at home and have the clear goal of winning.

Vincent Kompany

We have to show things on the pitch, earn ourselves respect and not allow the opponents to get into their rhythm. We need to put up a big fight.

Christian Ilzer (TSG Hoffenheim)
