"The good news is he's stable,” said board member for sport Max Eberl in Saturday’s pre-match press conference regarding Kompany’s condition. “He will spend a few more days in hospital until everything is checked over. The most important thing is that the cause is established and he gets fit again, and can recover in peace. He'll only come back when he's fit. He’s in the best hands. The best thing we can do is support him emotionally with energy and love.” Assistant coach Aaron Danks added: “It’s about making sure he's okay. The football operations are in our hands now. We'll do that among the coaching staff and try to help the team move forward."
I've learned how strong the boys are, how strong their winning mentality is. We've created a family unit over the years, and Vinnie's played a big part in that. We're relying on that now and obviously it will help us in this situation.

Bayern impressed with an emphatic 6-1 win against RB Leipzig last weekend and seized top spot in the table due to Borussia Dortmund’s goalless draw at Union Berlin and Freiburg’s 2-1 defeat at Bayer 04 Leverkusen. FCB have 14 points after six matchdays – one ahead of BVB, Freiburg and Leverkusen, who are all hot on the heels with 13. However, the Bavarians’ away record so far in the league – one win (2-1 at Elversberg) and two draws (0-0 at Schalke and 2-2 at Augsburg) requires some improvement. That will be the aim on Sunday at the Europa-Park Stadion. During the week, the German record champions showed an impressive performance in their Champions League home meeting with Arsenal, coming from 1-0 down to lead 2-1, but had to settle for a point after a late equaliser.
Bayern team news
Jamal Musiala is still recovering from a muscle tear and is not available for selection. The Munich men are also without Luis Díaz, who suffered a minor muscle fibre tear against Arsenal, Minjae Kim, who came off with a knock against the Gunners, and Manuel Neuer, who’s nursing tendonitis in his foot. Joshua Kimmich remains on compassionate leave.
Opponents: Freiburg
After an outstanding start to the campaign with eight wins and one draw in their first nine games in all competitions, SCF suffered their first two setbacks over the last week. After losing 2-1 at Leverkusen last Sunday, head coach Julian Schuster’s charges were beaten 3-0 at AS Monaco in the Conference League in midweek. “In the past, moments like today have focused our minds for the next tasks,” said Schuster after the convincing loss in Monaco and highlighted that the clash with Bayern will be “the biggest of the three challenges” of the week. Last season’s Europa League runners-up can still count on their strength at home, though: the Black Forest side have won all five competitive matches at home this season and are unbeaten on home turf in almost six months. In fact, their last home defeat came against FC Bayern in April, courtesy of a stoppage-time winner from Lennart Karl.
We're not a team where everything's bad after two defeats. We take the good things from it and go again on Sunday.
