Cup winners 2025! FCB Women celebrate first double in club’s history

Double winners 2025! Having already wrapped up the Bundesliga title on Sunday, FC Bayern Women were crowned DFB Cup winners on Thursday evening with a 4-2 victory over SV Werder Bremen. In front of a crowd of 45,246 at the RheinEnergieSTADION in Cologne, where president Herbert Hainer, CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen, deputy CEO Michael Diederich, board member for sport Max Eberl and sporting director Christoph Freund were among those in attendance, Lea Schüller headed Bayern into an early lead (6th minute). Carolin Simon made it 2-0 on the half-hour mark before Rieke Dieckmann pulled one back for Werder in first-half stoppage time. However, Schüller made sure of the win in the second half with two further goals (65’ and 79’). Larissa Mühlhaus netted a consolation goal with a free kick in the 94th minute.

Two changes

Head coach Alexander Straus made two changes to his starting XI from the 3-1 win at home to SC Freiburg, Glódís Perla Viggósdóttir and Jovana Damnjanović replacing Tuva Hansen and Arianna Caruso. Alara Şehitler, who was absent against Freiburg due to injury, was back on the bench.

Lively first half

FCB Women set a high tempo from the start at the RheinEnergieSTADION and were rewarded early: Giulia Gwinn struck the post from a tight angle but Schüller was on hand to head in the rebound. The Munich girls pushed on for the second goal, with Schüller being denied at close range by Werder goalkeeper Livia Peng and then Pernille Harder arriving a step too late for Gwinn’s precise cross. The chances kept coming as Sophie Weidauer had a go from distance at the other end before Schüller was centimetres away from getting on the end of Klara Bühl’s cross just a minute later.

The second goal eventually arrived after 30 minutes: Damnjanović played in Bühl with a fine pass and the German international had the vision to square to Simon, who confidently smashed it in from close range. The German champions had a chance to make it three shortly before the break, but Sydney Lohmann’s header was thwarted by a strong reflex stop from Peng, with Harder narrowly missing from the resulting corner. Instead it was Werder who provided the final act of the first half, Dieckmann making it 2-1 from 15 metres in the second minute of added time.

Schüller completes hat-trick

Bayern had the first opportunity after the restart, with Bühl breaking into the penalty area but her effort was deflected away. Straus’ side continued to dominate and the travelling fans were almost celebrating again on 62 minutes, but the impressive Peng again denied Harder from Schüller’s lay-off. Three minutes later, though, Schüller found the net herself, heading in unmarked from substitute Hansen’s delivery. The striker then set up Harder again shortly after, but Peng was once more equal to it.

The Munich girls didn’t rest on their two-goal lead. Linda Dallmann tried her luck from range just seconds after coming on but Peng turned it over the bar. With the next attack i nthe 79th minute, FCB did seal it. Again it was Hansen who set up Schüller, and she netted her third goal of the final with a clinical finish. Mühlhaus made it a 4-2 scoreline in stoppage time with a delightful free kick, but that didn’t stop the Munich girls celebrating the first double in their history.
