Thank you, Alexander Straus!

Alexander Straus is leaving FC Bayern Women at the end of the season following three highly successful years in charge. The Norwegian took over the Munich Frauen in summer 2022 and has led the team to three straight Bundesliga titles, as well as DFB Cup and Supercup triumphs. The 49-year-old also guided the team to their first-ever domestic double in his final campaign in charge. fcbayern.com looks back on his reign in Munich.

Bayern boast a proud record of having won the Bundesliga in all three seasons under Straus, in 2022/23, 2023/24 and 2024/25. Having joined the club as four-time champions, he leaves with Bayern now seven-time women’s champions of Germany. A hat-trick of titles is a feat only previously achieved by FFC Frankfurt, Turbine Potsdam and Wolfsburg. Bayern also set a new record under Straus of 44 league games in a row without defeat, surpassing the previous 40-match best that FCB also set between 2013/14 and 2015/16.

On top of Bundesliga success, Straus also guided the champions to a maiden Supercup victory thanks to a 1-0 win over DFB Cup holders Wolfsburg in 2024.

First domestic double

Straus can also look back on an impressive record in Germany’s cup competition, even if he only got his hands on the trophy right at the end of his tenure. He led the team to the semi-finals in his maiden campaign before reaching a first final since 2018, which ended in defeat to Wolfsburg. But the third time was the charm for Bayern under the Norwegian as they lifted the DFB Cup for only the second time after 2012’s success. The 4-2 win over Werder Bremen in Cologne also brought the club its first domestic double in women’s football.

Memorable Champions League nights

A 3-1 win over Barcelona in front of 24,000 at the Allianz Arena will no doubt be one of Straus’s highlights from his time in Germany.

Straus’s Bayern reached the knockout stages of the UEFA Women’s Champions League in two of his three seasons. One of the more memorable moments will undoubtedly be the 3-1 win over Barcelona, played in front of a crowd of 24,000 at the Allianz Arena. But there was also the brilliant 5-2 victory over Arsenal to kick off 2024/25’s group stage. Or the dramatic win away at Benfica in 2022/23 after coming from 2-0 down and snatching all three points thanks to Georgia Stanway’s 98th-minute goal. It was evidence of the never-say-die attitude that Straus instilled in this Bayern team.

Danke, Alex!

Straus hasn’t just helped shape Bayern’s players on the pitch but also as people. The 49-year-old’s impact on the success of the last three years is clear to see. We’d like to thank him for his commitment, his passion and everything he’s brought to the team and the club. We wish Alex all the best for the future both in a personal and professional sense. He’ll always be welcome back in Munich.
