Cup winners 2026! FCB Women beat Wolfsburg 4-0 to seal second successive double

Double double winners! FC Bayern Women made history in Cologne on Thursday evening and crowned the best season in the club’s history by adding the DFB Cup to their Bundesliga title. José Barcala’s side eased to a 4-0 win over VfL Wolfsburg in the final to complete a second successive domestic double.

Under the watchful eyes of president Herbert Hainer, CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen, board member for marketing and sales Rouven Kasper, board member for sport Max Eberl, sporting director Christoph Freund, first vice-president Prof. Dr. Dieter Mayer and second vice-president Walter Mennekes, Georgia Stanway gave the Bavarians the lead in first-half stoppage time with a penalty. After the break, Pernille Harder, Momoko Tanikawa and substitute Arianna Caruso stretched the lead.

Dallmann: ‘We deserved it’

Linda Dallmann: “I think we also deserved it today. We were very dominant in the second half, we’ve earned it over the whole season. I’m just proud of the team because everyone gave their all today and we stayed patient until the end – and also showed what we’re capable of. Wolfsburg were very compact, which was annoying for us. They played with five at the back. We had problems with that in the last match that Wolfsburg won against us; you just have to be patient. In the second half, the spaces opened up and obviously that presents more opportunities. It’s always good to score just before half-time – also mentally. It gave us assurance and momentum for the second half, otherwise it might have got a bit more frantic.”

Gwinn: ‘Wonderful afternoon all round’

Giuila Gwinn: “It definitely wasn’t easy today against Wolfsburg. When two teams of this calibre meet, it’s clear that the match won’t be decided in the first half. It was important that we stuck to our guns. Especially in the second half, we managed to pull off our game better, scored some nice goals and in the end won by four goals. It was just a wonderful afternoon all round – in front of a mega crowd. It’s just great fun with this team. The coach said clearly to us at half-time that nothing was decided yet. We had to keep going with the same concentration and intensity. Of course, being 1-0 up was an advantage for us, but we were also aware that Wolfsburg would come out aggressively after the break. I think we then scored the goals at very good times and that gave us more confidence. We were able to enjoy the game a bit more at the end than in the first half.”

Deadlock broken at end of first half

After a tentative opening phase, Bayern gradually took control of the game against the deep-lying She-Wolves. Harder had the first really threatening moment in the 20th minute, when she headed narrowly wide from Klara Bühl’s deep cross. Barcala’s side continued to push for the opening goal but found it hard to break down the well-organised and compact Wolfsburg defence. They were then presented with an opportunity in stoppage time at the end of the first half, when Tanikawa was fouled in the box, and Stanway took it confidently to make it 1-0. It could’ve even been 2-0 at the break, but Sarah Linder cleared Harder’s attempt off the line.

Comfortable second half

The second half was similar to much of the first period until Harder netted the crucial second goal in the 59th minute, the Dane heading home from a Magdalena Eriksson cross from the left. Spaces opened up for the Reds after that, which they fully exploited. With 77 minutes gone, Tanikawa turned Bühl’s deflected cross over the line to make it 3-0 and put the result beyond doubt. And seven minutes later, substitute Caruso scored a delightful free kick to complete a deserved 4-0 victory.

Away in Hamburg to finish

The newly crowned double winners visit Hamburger SV on the final day of the Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga season this Sunday, 17 May, at 14:00 CEST.
