FC Bayern Women visit Köln with lead to defend

FC Bayern Women are away at Köln for Matchday 13 of the Google Pixel Bundesliga as they look to defend top spot in the table at the Franz-Kremer-Stadion on Saturday (kick-off 14:00 CET). Here’s all you need to know ahead of the game in our preview.

State of play

Last Monday’s commanding 4-0 win at home to Freiburg allowed Bayern to return to the Bundesliga summit following Wolfsburg’s 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen. The defending champions from Munich are now on 30 points coming into this weekend – one points above their rivals.

Bayern beat Köln 2-0 in Munich earlier this season.

The opponent

The Cologne club sit ninth in the Bundesliga with 10 points from their 12 games. Daniel Weber’s team are without a win in seven league outing, last weekend losing 2-1 to RB Leipzig. The Köln boss previously worked at Bayern as a player developer and U16s coach with the boys between 2021 and 2023.

Team news

Bayern remain without Carolin Simon (cruciate ligament), Weronika Zawistowska (cruciate ligament), Cecilia Ran Runarsdottir (kneecap), Magdalena Eriksson (metatarsal), Ana Maria Guzman (knee) and Tainara (illness).

Alexander Straus in Bayern training

Head coach Alexander Straus is focusing on Saturday’s Köln game.

Pre-match quotes

Head coach Alexander Straus: “Köln are a very physical and experienced team, who brought in some new players over the winter. It’ll be an interesting game where it will be key who performs best.”

Alara Sehitler: “The table is always a factor. You obviously also look at the other games. But at the end of the day, the focus is on us. The mood is good, so we’ve got a good feeling for Saturday. I don’t think Köln will go all-out attack but will wait and see at first what we do. But they’ll still throw all they’ve got because they’ve got nothing to lose against a team like us.”
