Opponent: Wolfsburg

Wolfsburg played four friendly matches during their pre-season, starting with a goalless draw against Bundesliga newcomers Carl Zeiss Jena. Tommy Stroot’s side then beat Slavia Prague (2-1), Twente (5-1) and PSV Eindhoven (3-0).

Bayern faced the She-Wolves twice in the league and once in the DFB Cup last season. Although the cup final ended in a 2-0 defeat for FCB, they won both Bundesliga encounters. Our Frauen claimed a 2-1 home victory last November thanks to a goal and an assist from Klara Bühl, while Straus’s side were brilliant in the return fixture at the Volkswagen Arena and ran out 4-0 winners.

Team news

Lena Oberdorf (cruciate ligament) and Katharina Naschenweng (knee joint) are both still unavailable for this match. Ana Maria Guzman (knee), Anna Wellmann (muscular) and Ena Mahmutovic (foot) are all back in training but not yet ready for the first game of the season. Alara Şehitler is off to Colombia for the U20 World Cup alongside Laura Gloning and Sarah Ernst. Carolin Simon remains a doubt.

Pre-Supercup quotes

Alexander Straus: “The mood in the team is very good. We’re looking forward to getting going again and starting the new season. We’ve obviously got respect for Wolfsburg. They’re a highly successful team with a lot of experience. But we also know we can win games against them. We’ve shown that in recent years. It’ll be a very tight encounter that comes down to fine margins.”

Pernille Harder: “Our pre-season went very well. We’ve worked hard in the past few weeks and had good friendly matches. We’re up against a top team to start with in Wolfsburg. They have a lot of quality in their ranks and have been playing at an extremely high level for many years. We want to win Sunday’s game and bring the first title of the season back to Munich.”
