It was an all-round successful day in South Tyrol as FC Bayern visited Kaltern on Saturday afternoon for the 12th edition of the Dream Match. Thomas Tuchel's side won 6-1 against the team from the Weinbeisser Kaltern fan club, capping off a perfect red and white football weekend following the 4-0 victory in the Bundesliga opener at Werder Bremen on Friday night.
Party atmosphere in Kaltern
In glorious summer conditions, the German record champions were given a warm welcome by the 6,400 enthusiastic spectators at the sold-out Waldstadion in Kaltern. And the fans got their money's worth, on and off the pitch. As Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka and Co signed autographs and posed for selfies, the likes of Thomas Müller, Matthijs de Ligt and Konrad Laimer were included in the starting line-up. In the second half, the substitutes included Jamal Musiala and new signing Harry Kane, whose introduction was met by great cheers.
Weinbeisser hold their own and celebrate goal
Weinbeisser used a total of 44 players, split into four teams, meaning each player got around 22 minutes. The hosts held their own very well to begin with and kept it goalless for a long time with a spirited defensive play, despite Mathys Tel in particular getting a number of chances. Benjamin Pavard eventually gave Bayern the lead in the 36th minute, finishing off an attack he started himself. All hell broke loose shortly before half-time when Weinbeisser equalised through Martin Ritsch, but the Reds found a quick response with Müller heading in Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting's cross to make it 2-1 at the break. "The atmosphere is obviously fantastic. It's just great, the boys are having fun. You saw what emotions the goal evoked," said the goalscorer in a half-time interview.
Bayern run away
Bayern made the scoreline more convincing early on in the second period with Müller, Tel and Ryan Gravenberch adding three goals in the space of eight minutes. Then Musiala completed the scoring in the 86th minute, finishing off a fine move to make it 6-1. The Bavarians now have a full week of training before their first home fixture of the new Bundesliga season against FC Augsburg next Sunday.
