FC Bayern will be without Alphonso Davies for the time being. “With Phonzy, when we did our follow-up examination yesterday that we do with ever player that has had Covid-19, we detected signs of mild myocarditis, i.e. an inflammation of the heart muscle,” said Julian Nagelsmann at his press conference on Friday ahead of the Bundesliga game at 1. FC Köln. “He’ll sit out training until further notice. He won’t be available, also in the coming weeks. The ultrasound shows this myocarditis isn’t so dramatic but it‘s a sign of myocarditis. Still, it has to heal and that will definitely take some time,” Nagelsmann added.
Six players return to squad
However, Manuel Neuer, Dayot Upamecano, Omar Richards, Leroy Sane and Tanguy Nianzou will all be back in the matchday squad following their Covid-19 infections. “None of them are 100 per cent fit. Some of them had symptoms. They’re back in the squad, but none except Manu are ready to start or play for long,” the coach explained. Corentin Tolisso will also make the trip to Cologne. “He had no symptoms and has come back the fittest. We have to see, but he’ll be involved,” Nagelsmann continued.
Coman and Goretzka in recovery training
Leon Goretzka and Kingsley Coman will both be absent for the Köln game. “Leon is in recovery training and won’t have an operation. We’re trying it with medicine and will continue to build up his training. We’ll see after two weeks how the knee reacts,” Nagelsmann explained of Bayern’s No.8. “King had this muscular injury before his Covid-19 infection and now has to be built up again,” the 34-year-old added. Bayern are also without Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, Bouna Sarr (both at the Africa Cup of Nations), Lucas Hernandez (Covid-19) and Josip Stanisic (recovery training).
