Bayern ended the 2021/22 season with their 10th consecutive Bundesliga title - but it’s not over yet for a large portion of the squad. In total, 18 players from the German record champions are currently away with their national teams before they get to enjoy a well-earned summer break. fcbayern.com provides an overview of who’s playing where:
Germany: Neuer, Süle, Kimmich, Gnabry, Goretzka, Sané, Müller, Musiala
Led by their captain Manuel Neuer, who signed a one-year contract extension with FC Bayern on Monday, Germany face four tough fixtures in the UEFA Nations League. For the matches against European champions Italy (4 June in Bologna), and England at the Allianz Arena (7 June), in Hungary (11 June in Budapest) as well as the return fixture against Italy in Mönchengladbach (14 June), Germany’s most-capped goalkeeper is joined in the squad by FCB teammates Niklas Süle, Joshua Kimmich, Serge Gnabry, Leon Goretzka, Leroy Sané, Thomas Müller and Jamal Musiala.
France: Pavard, Coman, Hernández
France begin their title defence in June with three Bayern players in the squad. Benjamin Pavard, Kingsley Coman and Lucas Hernández have been selected by coach Didier Deschamps for his team’s four Nations League games. Les Bleus meet Denmark (3 June in Saint-Denis), Croatia twice (6 June in Split and 13 June in Saint-Denis) and Austria (10 June in Vienna).
Poland: Lewandowski
Poland, led by captain Robert Lewandowski are also involved in the Nations League, where they take on Wales (1 June in Wroclaw), Belgium twice (8 June in Brussels and 14 June in Warsaw) and Netherlands (11 June in Rotterdam).
Austria: Sabitzer
Austria have a new coach but for Marcel Sabitzer, he’ll be coming up against a familiar face! Ralf Rangnick’s first match as Austrian national team boss is against Croatia (3 June in Osijek), who have FCB teammate Josip Stanišić in their squad. That’s followed by two clashes with Denmark (6 June in Vienna and 13 June in Copenhagen) either side of the aforementioned meeting with France.
Croatia: Stanišić
Josip Stanišić completes the Bayern contingent in Group A1 of the Nations League. The defender has been called up for Croatia’s games against Austria (3 June in Osijek), France (6 June in Split and 13 June in Saint-Denis) and Denmark (10 June in Copenhagen).
Canada: Davies
The North American CONCACAF association also participates in the Nations League: Alphonso Davies and Canada will play against Curaçao (10 June in Vancouver) and Honduras (13 June in San Pedro Sula). Ahead of that, the Canadians will play a friendly against Iran in Vancouver on 5 June.
Cameroon: Choupo-Moting
Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is in action for Cameroon in qualifying for the 2023 African Cup of Nations. The Indomitable Lions play against Kenya (4 June in Yaoundé) and Burundi (8 June in Daressalam).
Germany U17: Paul Wanner
Bayern youngster Paul Wanner is currently battling for the European Championship title with the German U17 team in Israel. After easing through the group stage with wins over Italy (3-2), Luxembourg (3-0) and the hosts (3-0), Wanner and Co now meet France in the quarter-finals on 25 May in Rishon LeZion.
France U20: Nianzou
Tanguy Nianzou is in the France U20 squad for the renowned youth tournament in Toulon. The world champions’ youngsters are playing in a group with Panama (29 May in Aubagne), Saudi Arabia (1 June in Vitrolles) and Argentina (4 June in Aubagne) for a place in the knockout stages, which will be held from 9 to 12 June.
