Brady Show at the Allianz Arena: Buccaneers beat Seahawks

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were the winners of the first NFL regular season game in Germany. The southern state team, for whom quarterback star Tom Brady plays, saw off the Seattle Seahawks 21-16 with a dominant display. Brady himself contributed the first two touchdown passes and gained 258 yards of space. While it was a second successive win for the 2021 Super Bowl winners, the Seahawks suffered their first defeat after four victories on the spin.

Before kick-off, FC Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn met with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell as well as Tampa Bay Buccaneers vice president Joel Glazer, among others:

A historic day

But it’s not just the game itself that will live long in the memory of the attendees and German NFL fans. The NFL regular season game also provided plenty of other attractions: before kick-off, German rapper Cro got the 69,811 enthusiastic fans inside the sold-out Munich arena warmed up, and a fan event also took place on the esplanade outside FC Bayern’s home stadium from 11:00 with various activities and challenges. The city of Munich had already been in the grip of NFL fever for days, for example with events at Odeonsplatz and fan gatherings in some of the Bavarian capital’s most famous taverns.

FC Bayern players involved

Of course, the FC Bayern players - fresh from winning their final match of 2022 2-0 against Schalke on Saturday evening - also didn’t miss the opportunity to take in the highlight game live, shortly before many of them head off to the World Cup. Along with head coach Julian Nagelsmann, Jamal Musiala, Kingsley Coman, Leroy Sané, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, Thomas Müller, Jojo SchenkMarcel Sabitzer, Serge Gnabry, Alphonso Davies, Josip Stanišić, Sven Ulreich and others were in attendance. Davies, whose place in the Canada World Cup squad was confirmed earlier today, was given the special honour of performing the traditional coin toss with Bavarian Minister-President Markus Söder on the field before kick-off.
