Reaction to the home game against SV Werder Bremen - Manuel Neuer: 'We dominated again'

A celebration fit for the Oktoberfest: FC Bayern scored four goals against Werder Bremen on Friday at the Allianz Arena, and celebrated a clear 4-0 victory. Thanks to Harry Kane's brace (45’, 65’) and goals from Jonathan Tah (22’) and Konrad Laimer (87’), Bayern celebrated their fifth win in five Bundesliga games at their home ground – maintaining their perfect record.

“It was a great performance,” said Kane, who scored his 100th goal for the German record champions in what was only his 104th competitive match in the Bundesliga. “We scored the goals at the right time, allowed them very few chances and kept possession well once we gained it.” fcbayern.com has compiled the rest of the post-match reaction.

Reaction to the home game against SV Werder Bremen

Jan-Christian Dreesen, CEO: “Harry has once again proven, not only with his goal but also in his play off the ball, that he is incredibly important to this team. The fact that he set the record – his 100th goal in his 104th competitive match in this league – better than Ronaldo and Haaland, is simply wonderful.”

Vincent Kompany: “What Harry is currently demonstrating, reflects how he feels. He is breaking record after record – and at the same time he keeps working hard to get back and defend. That's what makes him special. Anyone who scores so many goals and at the same time works so hard for the team is hugely important. We can become even stronger when everyone is fit. And at the same time, I'm delighted that young players like Tom Bischof, Lennart Karl and Wisdom Mike are getting their chance.”

Manuel Neuer: “We won comfortably here and dominated the game again. It was important that we went into the match highly focused, remained objective throughout and tried not to let anything slip. We all know that we’re always capable of scoring several goals. Nevertheless, it's not that easy and we have to work hard for it.”

Harry Kane: “It was a great performance. The way we started the game – we probably should’ve scored one or two more goals in the early stages, I missed a couple of chances. But then we got more and more into the groove of it. We scored the goals at the right time, allowed them very few chances and kept possession well once we gained it. It was a dominant performance, and we just have to keep going like this. 100 goals in 104 games for Bayern Munich – to be honest, that's crazy even for me. It's an honour to reach 100 goals for this great club. I'm really proud of that.”

Jonathan Tah: "Everyone can see that we enjoy working on the pitch. Everyone sacrifices themselves for each other and gives their all to win the game. I think that's what creates this energy and flow. And then even the centre-back can have a moment like that – I don't think I've ever scored a goal like that before. It was important that Lucho got a touch on it. It was a nice goal and a good way to break the deadlock."

Tom Bischof: “The match was very difficult and exhausting. I'm extremely happy to have gotten my full, starting eleven debut. We found out this morning, but I noticed yesterday that I might have a chance to get in the starting eleven – and luckily I took advantage of it this week.”

Reaction from the Werder camp

Horst Steffen (head coach): “It was exhausting. You expected Bayern to have a lot of possession and for them have to many chances. We had to mitigate those chances and try to make the most of our own chances when we had the ball. We only managed to do that in certain phases. At times, we were struggling for breath and couldn't control the game as we usually do. They're just very good – you can't always defend everything. In that respect, it was a deserved win for Bayern. We have to compete against other teams and get our points there.”

Marco Friedl (captain): "We deserved to lose. But we had a few chances, especially in the first half, where we had a lot of space and could have made better use of. What's really bad is that we're conceding far too many goals. In some respects we did well today. We found ourselves in a lot of dangerous situations, but we managed to defend many of them. However, the next few weeks are crucial for us. We have opponents who are on a par with us, so we need to pick up points."

Karl Hein (goalkeeper): “It was definitely a very special day for me and my family. Unfortunately, it doesn't feel that good because we lost – that's part of football. Of course, it was a very challenging game with man-to-man pressing across the whole pitch. But that's how it is here. We need to analyse and make improvements. There were also good things that we can build on.”
