Bayern have one more game before the final international break of 2026 as they visit Mainz in the Bundesliga on Saturday. The Bavarians make the trip on the back of a 30-game unbeaten run away from home in the league (W22, D8). It’s the club’s second-longest streak ever, behind the 33 matches in a row between 2012 and 2014, but the last defeat on their travels domestically did indeed come at the 05ers in December 2024 (2-1).

Bayern overcame several absentees on Tuesday to produce an excellent performance in their 2-0 win away at Atlético Madrid in the Champions League. It means the Munich men remain the only team across Europe’s top five leagues not to lose in any competition this season. They go into Matchday 9 top of the Bundesliga table ahead of Borussia Dortmund on goal difference alone (both 18 points).
Trips to Mainz have caused problems in recent years, however. Bayern have in fact lost four of the last six league games at the MEWA Arena (L2), but the most recent visit will live long in the memory as they came from 3-0 down to win 4-3 back in April. It was just the third time in Bundesliga history that Bayern turned around a three-goal deficit to claim all three points.

Bayern boast the Bundesliga’s best attack with 27 goals scored, 48 big chances and an xG of 28.3. Michael Olise in particular has been in top goalscoring form, leading the club chart and sitting third in the division standings with six league goals. Harry Kane is obviously also a huge part of things going forward, contributing with four goals and six assists in the Bundesliga alone. The Ballon d’Or winner also has a good record against Mainz, netting six times in five Bundesliga meetings.

Upa on the up
Upa on the up

Dayot Upamecano has once again demonstrated his excellent form this season over the past week in the 2-2 draw against Borussia Dortmund and 2-0 win in Madrid. The centre-back got his third league goal of the season against BVB to equal his personal best for an entire season in the Bundesliga (three for RB Leipzig in 2017/18) and take the title of top-scoring defence in this league campaign. Upa’s underlying Bundesliga stats are also impressive so far. He’s won 15 out of 19 tackles, ranks third in the division for balls won (44 – Tjark Scheller: 57; Edmond Tapsoba: 45). His success rate in duels of 59 percent is the second best during his time at Bayern (61% in 2021/22). And above all, the France international is on a personal run of 52 Bundesliga games without defeat, which is the third-longest streak in the league’s history.
