Four days after the storming 3-2 victory over holders Arsenal in the Champions League, FC Bayern Women are back in action in the DFB Cup. The defending double winners travel to FC Ingolstadt in the round of 16 on Sunday, kicking off 14:00 CET. Tickets are still available for the Bavarian derby.
Latest news from Bayern
Bayern have been in strong form of late. The emphatic 6-0 win at Nürnberg as well as the 4-0 victory at home to Union Berlin underlined the champions’ dominance in the league. Then on Wednesday, the crowd at the Allianz Arena were given a Champions League evening full of drama. Against UWCL holders Arsenal, FCB found themselves 2-0 down at half-time but demonstrated their impressive mental strength as Alara, Pernille Harder and Glódís Viggósdóttir turned the game around inside 20 minutes for a glorious 3-2 win. After that battling display, José Barcala’s side now go into the upcoming cup clash against Ingolstadt with plenty of confidence.

Opponents: Ingolstadt
A home tie against FCB is Ingolstadt’s reward for an impressive victory in the first round in late September, where Benjamin Stolte’s side beat Bundesliga side Nürnberg on penalties. In Women’s Bundesliga 2, the Schanzerinnen currently occupy ninth place but are only three points behind third place in a tight table. They lost 4-2 at Borussia Mönchengladbach last time out.
Ingolstadt are not unfamiliar opponents to Bayern. The two teams met in the second round of the 2022/23 cup competition, with FCB winning 7-0. They also contested a friendly ahead of the 2024/25 season, which Munich won 3-0 at the FC Bayern Campus.
Team news
Head coach Barcala remains without long-term absentees Sarah Zadrazil and Lena Oberdorf (both cruciate ligament). Tuva Hansen is still out with an ankle injury, too.

Pre-match quotes
José Barcala: “It’s all or nothing in the cup – it comes down to this one match, there’s no room for error or carelessness. Ingolstadt will play with a lot of passion at home, it’s the match of the season for them. We need to be on it from the start. It’s about being mentally and tactically ready to play to our strengths and adjust to the particular challenges of a game like this.”
Alara Şehitler: “The cup has its own laws – there’s a reason people say that. The friendly against Ingolstadt was a while ago, and both teams have changed quite a lot since then. We expect opponents who will sit deep and try to keep it 0-0 for as long as possible. For us it’s vital we get chances early on and ideally score a quick goal. With our quality and full concentration, I’m confident we can win the game.”
