Serge Gnabry after preseason friendly against Lyon: ‘Great to be back on the pitch’

Christoph Freund (Sporting director): “We've only trained properly twice, so all things considered it was good. There were some good scenes and it was fun at times. The young players fitted in very well, didn’t hold back and performed well. It's a different summer – a different preparation than in recent years. We simply have to utilise the time very well. We're not starting from scratch either. The atmosphere’s been good in the first few days. From a mental point of view, the short preparation can also be an advantage and physically it shouldn't be a problem either.”

Vincent Kompany (before the game): "It's an atypical preseason period – a short holiday, short preparation and then we’re right back to it. But we're up for it. We don't have much time. We want to be physically ready for the first games. Luis Díaz is full of positive energy. We've already seen his qualities and abilities in training. He will help us."

 

Joshua Kimmich: "Especially in the second half, we had one or two good chances. We could have scored one or two more goals. You could tell that we didn't start from scratch, but that we had a certain rhythm already. Luis Díaz is someone who loves football and always has a smile on his face."

Harry Kane: "The team is hungry and ready. Our squad is strong, we saw that today – and you'll see that at the start of the season too. I'm ready and we've still got a few games before the start of the season to get into shape. Luis Díaz did a great job today. We've only had a few training sessions together so far, but he looks hungry and eager. You can tell he's happy to be here. He plays with a smile on his face. Today you could see how effective he is in the final third and we're going to need him this season, so I'm delighted he's here."

It's the repetition that counts, so that things keep getting better. We're looking forward to the upcoming games. Luis Díaz is very diligent and works very hard. We're delighted that he's here.”

Paul Wanner: “It was great fun playing with the boys. We have very good quality in the team. Overall, it was okay, but of course we still have to work on one or two things. My focus is now on preparing myself. I want to step on the gas and prove myself.”
