Records, bests and incredible runs: the year 2022 again had a wealth of outstanding statistics to offer from a Bayern point of view. fcbayern.com has compiled the 22 best facts and figures from the past 12 months:
1. Dream start in the Bundesliga
With nine points, 15 goals scored and one conceded in the first three matches, Bayern enjoyed the best ever start to a season by a team in Bundesliga history.
2. Four times six
In 15 matches to date in the current Bundesliga campaign, Bayern have scored six or more goals four times – no other team have achieved that as often in the first 15 matchdays of a season in Germany's top flight. The tally of 49 goals scored at this stage has only been bettered by Bayern themselves in Bundesliga history: in 1976/77 it was 50 goals.
3. #MISS10N completed
Bayern became German champions for an incredible 10th consecutive year in the summer, setting a record within Europe's top five leagues. Previously they'd shared it with Juventus, who won nine Italian titles from 2012 to 2020.
4. Sharing the load
Thirteen different players have scored for Bayern in this Bundesliga season, a joint league high with Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Only once have the Reds had more different goalscorers at this stage: 14 in the 1994/95 campaign.
5. Happy end to the year
Julian Nagelsmann's side have won their last six league outings, the longest winning streak in the Bundesliga this season. Before the start of this run, Bayern were four points off the top of the table; now the serial champions have a four-point lead over second place.
6. Consistently scoring more than once
Bayern ended the year having scored at least two goals in each of their last 13 matches in all competitions. Since promotion to the Bundesliga, the Bavarians have only once put together a longer run of competitive games with two or more goals - 20 under Pep Guardiola in the 2013/14 season.
7. FCB (almost) always score in the Bundesliga
Until the 1-0 defeat at Augsburg in September, Bayern had found the net in 87 consecutive Bundesliga matches, setting a sensational record in the competition. And the meeting with the Bavarian neighbours proved to be a mere one-off, as the Munich men have since embarked on a new run of eight Bundesliga matches in a row with goalscoring success and a total of 30 goals scored.
8. Third perfect Champions League group stage
After 2019/20 and 2021/22, Bayern claimed the maximum haul of 18 points in the Champions League group stage for the third time. Real Madrid are the only other club to have achieved this more than once in the competition's history.
9. Bayern dominating group stage
The 2-0 win over Inter Milan on Matchday 6 of the Champions League extended Bayern's run to 13 consecutive victories and 34 games unbeaten in the group stage of Europe's premier club competition.
10. Top contributor Gnabry
Serge Gnabry was directly involved in 27 goals in all competitions for Bayern in 2022 (16 goals, 11 assists), the most in the team. Jamal Musiala was the only other player to reach double figures in both goals (14) and assists (10).
11. Ever-present Kimmich
Joshua Kimmich played the most competitive games for Bayern in 2022 (44, same as Gnabry) and in doing so registered the most minutes (3,840) and the most shot assists (14) for FCB. The midfielder also ran 381 kilometres in the Bundesliga in 2022, more than any other player in the German top flight.
12. Wanner becomes Bayern's youngest
Back in early January, in the first match of the year, Paul Wanner made his professional debut for the German record champions against Borussia Mönchengladbach. At the age of 16 years and 15 days, the midfielder became Bayern's youngest-ever player in the Bundesliga. In the whole history of the league, only Borussia Dortmund's Youssoufa Moukoko (16 years, one day) made his debut at a younger age.
Paul Wanner also features in the latest episodes of FC Bayern Campus Stories:
13. Super youngster Jamal Musiala
In the 2-0 win at Schalke that concluded the year, Musiala made his 100th competitive appearance for Bayern - at the tender age of 19 years and 259 days. No other FCB player has reached this mark at professional level at such a young age. Moreover, the Germany international netted nine goals in the first 14 matchdays of this Bundesliga season. Never before has a teenager had so many goals to his name at this stage of the season in the history of the competition.
14. Choupo-Moting's hot streak
From October to November, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting scored in seven successive competitive games for the first time in his career. Since 16 October, the striker has racked up 13 goal involvements (10 goals, three assists) in nine outings in all competitions, more than any other Bayern player.
15. Lewandowski signs off with cannon
Now at Barcelona, Robert Lewandowski clinched his seventh Bundesliga top goalscorer prize in the summer, equalling Gerd Müller's record.
16. Neuer becomes record goalkeeper - part 1
In March, Manuel Neuer made his 104th Champions League appearance for Bayern in the 7-1 success against FC Salzburg, overtaking Oliver Kahn as the goalkeeper with the most games in the competition for FCB. The 36-year-old is now on 109 appearances.
17. Sané thrives in Europe
Leroy Sané was involved in eight goals in the Champions League in 2022 (five goals, three assists), the most of any Bayern player. He's been hitting the target in the league, too, scoring in three consecutive Bundesliga matches for the German record champions for the first time between September and October - something he'd previously only done for Schalke in September 2015.
18. Nagelsmann collects one win after the next
Nagelsmann has won all of his last 14 Champions League group matches (two with RB Leipzig, 12 with Bayern) - and by an aggregate score of 47-10. The FCB coach has thus equalled a record set by one of his predecessors: only Louis van Gaal achieved such a long winning run in the group stage of the competition (14 wins in a row from 1999 to 2009 with Barcelona and Bayern).
19. Tel enters club annals
With his goal in the 5-0 win at Viktoria Köln in the first round of the DFB Cup, Mathys Tel became Bayern's youngest goalscorer in professional football at the age of 17 years and 126 days.
20. Record-eqalling winner Thomas Müller
Thomas Müller celebrated his 52nd win in the DFB Cup (excluding penalty shoot-outs) in the 5-2 victory at Augsburg in the second round, drawing level with record holder Mirko Votava.
21. Neuer becomes record goalkeeper - part 2
At this year's World Cup in Qatar, FCB captain Neuer became the first German goalkeeper to be involved in four World Cups. He made his 19th tournament appearance in the 4-2 win in the final group match against Costa Rica, also moving above Sepp Maier as Germany's goalkeeper with the most World Cup appearances.
22. Bayern's incredible World Cup final run
Dayot Upamecano and Kingsley Coman were on the losing side with France on 18 December as they were beaten 4-2 on penalties by Argentina in a highly dramatic World Cup final. The duo continued an incredible Bayern run: at least one player from the record German champions has featured in all 11 World Cup finals since 1982. Only Inter Milan can match this run.
