Harry Kane has won the prestigious Torjägerkanone as the Bundesliga’s top scorer in 2023/24 with a remarkable 36 goals in his maiden campaign for Bayern. He’s also the first Englishman to earn the famous canon trophy. Let’s look back on some of his best goals from his first year in Germany’s top flight.
Account opened in Bremen
All eyes were on Kane as he made his Bundesliga bow on the opening night of the season in August, and he delivered. He didn’t just set up Leroy Sané for the opening goal but then opened his own account in the 75th minute of the 4-0 win away at Werder Bremen. His right-footed effort was the first evidence to German audiences of the England captain’s clinical finishing. “The assist was great; the goal was a classic. He wastes no time and puts the ball where he wants it. More of the same,” said a delighted Thomas Tuchel afterwards. And he definitely got more of the same…
Halfway line against Darmstadt
The 8-0 thrashing of Darmstadt in October was a huge game in many respects. Fans were first happy to see Manuel Neuer make his long-awaited comeback and then got to witness the team’s biggest win of the season – with Kane at the heart of that with a hat-trick. And the pick of the three was without doubt his finish from over 50 metres out, lobbing the Darmstadt goalkeeper from the halfway line. “I thought to myself ‘why not have a go?’. When the ball was in the air, I was just praying it would go under the bar,” said the man himself. A display of vision, confidence and all-round brilliant finishing once more.
Klassiker hat-trick
Kane was again at the heart of one of Bayern’s best games of the season as they won 4-0 away at Borussia Dortmund in November. The striker bagged yet another hat-trick, with all three proving once again just how cool he is in front of goal. His first to make it 2-0 was a tap-in from a Sané pass to round off a counter. His brace came with a composed touch and finish inside the box. And he took the matchball home yet again when running into a through ball and slotting home. What a way to mark your first Klassiker.
Focal point in attack
Say what you like, but Kane is one of a kind up front. He showed that once more in the 4-2 win over Heidenheim in November when found in the box, before holding off his opponents and spinning to fire home from 14 metres. “He’s phenomenal,” enthused sporting director Christoph Freund of the striker with 17 goals from 11 Bundesliga games.
Rounding off the year in Wolfsburg
Kane finished 2023 in the same fashion he’d started the season, this time producing a brilliant curling effort from some 20 metres in the 2-1 win at Wolfsburg. It was yet another record in the Bundesliga as he became the fastest player to 21 goals, from only 15 appearances. And it also completed a special hat-trick for the 30-year-old as he took home his third straight FC Bayern Goal of the Month award, adding December to October and November’s gongs.
Last minute against Leipzig
Kane earned his fourth monthly award in February thanks to the well-taken half-volley on his left foot to snatch a 2-1 win at home to RB Leipzig in added time to send fans and teammates inside the Allianz Arena wild as they marvelled at their goalscoring wonder.
While fans can look forward to more goals from Kane in the future, we’ve taken a look back at Bayern’s past top scorers in the Bundesliga:
